Traditional spindle from Santa Maria island (Azores, Portugal). Unlike most Portuguese spindles, these ones don't feature the usual screw shaped incision at the top. This happens because spinning (and plying) in the Azores is mostly done supporting the spindle on the floor or on a chair. Extremely light, fast and well balanced spindle, ideal for lightweight yarns.
